re:type

a selection of typewriters dating from early to late 20th century. As one of the most widely used commercially manufactured machines from the late 19th century, typewriters represent the evolution of global communication. The visible mechanical parts and the mechanism behind each typewriter reminds us of the physical gestures of communication - something that may have became trivial in modern days. Typewriter designs also portray the developmental progress of mechanical machines, reflecting the trends and needs of different eras, and paving way for the advancement of modern technology. As typewriters are becoming more obsolete, the revolution that they have brought is also being gradually forgotten. Through this exhibition, we hope to rediscover the beauty of these great machines and reimagine the possibilities they can bring to our daily lives.
